AMERICAN KENPO

AMERICAN KENPO

Ed Parker's American Kenpo:

Anyone can do Kenpo!

American Kenpo is a martial art characterized by the use of quick hand strikes in rapid succession. The multitude of fast strikes has a dual purpose, perhaps overwhelming an opponent, while attempting to ensure that at least some strikes effectively hit their target, just like striking combinations.

ARMAS KALI

This class brings the FUN!  Tap into your inner-warrior and grab a stick!  Armas-Kali is the Weapons Curriculum of the mass Academy of Martial Arts and the KSK Family under the leadership and guidance of Guro T.Kent Nelson.  It is a culmination of the techniques & concepts found in several weapon-based martial arts of the Philippines, Thailand, and Okinawa.

Students will study the FIVE main types of weapon use:

Impact Weapons: Sticks, Staffs, Clubs etc.
Edged Weapons: Knives, Swords, Hatchet  etc.
Puncture Weapons: Knife, Spear, Sword, etc.
Projectile Weapons: Rocks, Knives, Arrows, Guns
Flexible Weapons: Sarong, Malong, T-Shirt, Rope

The curriculum consists of Slashing, Thrusting, Hacking, Striking, Disarms, Trapping, Locks & Tie-Ups.  Students will learn all these elements as well as develop coordination, timing, range, foot & body movement, speed, power and grace.

Some of the weapons taught in Armas-Kali are:

Single Stick - Double Stick - Single Knife - Double Knife - Stick & Knife (Espada Y Daga) - Single Sword - Double Sword - The Staff - Sarong / Malong & Karambit

The defining feature of Armas-Kali is the logical teaching order of the curriculum,       designed to seamlessly blend the techniques and concepts of the styles it draws from.  The main focus of the system is to start a student with the most simple, functional and application-based movements & techniques. Once this is established, the curriculum builds on that knowledge into more attribute-based development, this means techniques which, although still very effective, may require the student a longer amount of time and a deeper lever of understanding to master

Grappling

The Grappling is isolated in our JKD  classes.  The focus on our grappling is more combat related or street effective.  We work on three phases of grappling:

1. Control and Escape - Just getting used to being on the ground without panicking while maintaining control of your opponent

2.  Striking - Works the ability to strike while still maintaining control (Also known as the Ground & Pound)

3. Submission - Being able to subdue your opponent with either chokes, locks or joint manipulation
